Being the first Filipino group of specialized rescue and retrieval team, the Operation Eastern Samar – which the Dalaw Kalinga Foundation joined – became a vital link for the foreign aid to reach our kababayans in Guiuan and nearby places. They met the USS George Washington’s Commanding Officer Admiral Montgomery.

Due to very weak signal caused by damaged telecom sites, the team uses satellite phone provided by the local government to communicate and report their status. According to the group’s leader, Marc Libo-on of STOUT, ”The team is now focused on rehab and rendering much needed medical help to the people of Guiuan and neighboring island. The team is transported to 4 islands on board the USS George Washington’s Black Hawks to conduct search and rescue and establish communication and organized the distribution of relief goods. On board a Motorcycle provided by the local government, the team reached areas and established drop off points for the US chopper’s.”
